- Move to safety (away from threat)
- Account for all family members
- Administer first aid if needed
- Protect airway (smoke, dust, chemicals)
- Text (don’t call) — “I’m OK” or “Need help”
- Contact out-of-area relay person
- Check on children / elderly / pets
- Monitor emergency alerts (radio, phone)
- Grab go-bag if evacuating
- Shut off gas / water / electricity if needed
- Take medications, shoes, keys, phone charger
- Lock up if leaving; open garage for access if staying
- Photograph damage (insurance)
- Check on neighbors
- Monitor official channels for updates
- Begin longer-term plan (shelter, supplies, routes)
- Fire: GET OUT. Low to ground. Don’t open hot doors.
- Earthquake: DROP, COVER, HOLD. Stay indoors until shaking stops.
- Tornado: Interior room, lowest floor. Cover your head.
- Flood: Move to higher ground. Never drive through water.
- Active threat: RUN → HIDE → FIGHT (last resort)
- Power outage: Check breakers. Conserve phone battery. Open fridge minimally.
- Chemical spill: Seal room. Wet towel under door. Wait for all-clear.
